It was 2011 – the Year of Alabama Music – and Vulcan Park and Museum planned their celebration around a simple thesis: As industrial workers traveled from the Alabama countryside into Birmingham, they carried with them musical traditions that would evolve in new, urban environments. We helped Vulcan advance this thesis with a strategy that was both mission friendly – and visually compelling; we cast visual artists as the documentarians of this musical migration story. The Music Lives On shows us just how down-to-earth a high concept can be.
